The Band

THE POCKET MONEY ORCHESTRA…

…is an original jazz dance-funk band from Salem, MA.  Their high-energy style reflects a wide variety of influences, from Charles Mingus to early Santana to Booker T and the MG’s.  Performing regularly around the North Shore, the band brings a big sound and heavy pocket.  PMO’s first studio work “The Four Finger Stomp EP”, was released in January 2014.

The Players

Brian Cogger – Trumpet:  Hanging out in local music spots since 16, Brian was heavily influenced by The Boston Horns and Henley Douglas, musicians that allowed him to sit in and develop as a player.  He is also a member of The Romano Project, a group that frequents the New England festival circuit.  Brian currently studies at The University of Denver.  More information can be found at his website.

Seth Bailin – Saxophones: A multi-talented musician currently residing in Lowell, MA.  Seth is a grad student at UMass Lowell, with an undergraduate degree in sound production from UML.  In addition to PMO, he performs with several bands in the area.  He can be found playing with President Soup, the Riverhawk Party Band, and The Hallways.  Follow him at www.nicebassproductions.com

Squantch – Trombone:  Squantch has toured North America and Europe with a variety of bands, including the widely acclaimed jam band Topaz, acid jazz gurus The Groove Collective, and the innovative ska ensemble David Hillyard and the Rocksteady VII.  View his Discography .

Aidan Scrimgeour – Keys:  One of the founding members of the band, Aidan also writes much of the Orchestra’s original material.  Raised in Salem, MA, he currently attends Tufts University while working on a dual degree through the New England Conservatory.

Ben Siwak – Bass:  Influenced by a wide variety of genres from jazz to punk to electronic music, Ben lays down a deeply pocketed bottom end.  He is also a member of The Romano Project.

Derek Hayden – Drums:   Derek is a graduate of UMass Lowell, and is an accomplished performer on drum set, marimba, tabla, and a wide variety of classical percussion instruments.  In addition to PMO, Derek can be found playing around New England with a variety of bands and orchestras.  He also plays with his progressive marimba/bass/drums trio, The Daily Post.

Danny Dugan – Percussion:  Another graduate of UMass Lowell, Danny has been bringing his high-energy and innovative percussion stylings to the band since the summer of 2013.  He has proven himself capable of silencing a room with a shaker solo.  Also a capable drum set player, Danny has filled in on set on several performances with PMO.
